As my Delta flight left Atlanta last July 29, 2008, I thought back to the planning of this new adventure.  It began with the 2007 SCI convention in Reno. SCI is a great outdoor show, but the highlight for my hunting buddy Larry Murphy and me was meeting Johan Strasheim at his Bahati Adventures booth.  We were determined to find a quality African outfitter that offered the opportunity for both of us to take a varied set of trophies, and Johan said he could provide the hunt we were looking for. – Johan is a man of his word, our hunt was great…

In net, for my first African hunt I wanted a select set of trophies. Hippo, Cape buffalo, Eland and Kudu had long been my dream animals. Plus, I would take any other nice ‘horned’ trophies that I could not resist.  As for Larry it was Leopard, Sable, Lichtenstein Hartebeest, and Suni. Johan said Bahati offered an African hunting experience that could supply the game for this varied list.

At 72, I knew my body might not have many chances for travel to Africa, so my choice of trophies was specific, and the selection of my outfitter was well researched. Bahati is a soundly managed business and my dream hunt was a complete success.  In order, I collected the following: Cape buffalo, Reedbuck, Waterbuck, Hippopotamus, Eland and Kudu.  Larry and I would see each other in hunt camp from time to time, but his guide (Marius) and trackers were working just as hard as were Coera and my tracker team.  Larry took a beautiful Sable, Leopard, Lichtenstein’s Hartebeest, Warthog, Suni, and Duiker.

Hunting trips across the continental states, Alaska, Argentina, and Canada did not prepare me for Africa. - Johan and Bahati Adventures have opened the door to a giant world of new hunting experience.  I want to go back and hunt with them again!!!

So, with the above preamble, here is a brief summary of my hunt.  Bahati provided me with the hunt of a lifetime.  And believe me, it was a hunt!  At Bahati in Mozambique, the accommodations were clean and complete.  The food was hearty and plentiful.  Bahati is not a luxury motel with a few animals standing around; this is exciting, wild Africa as you expected it should be!

Throughout my Bahati adventure, everything I needed for personal comfort was available, but this was a hunt, not a “shopping trip”.  Each day I would hunt hard and long with my professional guide (Coera) who was determined that I would have a clear shot to collect the best game trophy available.  The two trackers that worked with Coera (William & Marco), were absolutely amazing and could spot a Waterbuck in the tall grass at 300 yards.  Yes – Bahati is a professional hunting operation located in a game rich and wild piece of Mozambique.
