Marius Verster (Mara)


Mara is a veteran of nearly ten seasons of guiding for Bahati in Mozambique and is the senior PH.  Mara is an experienced hunter and fisherman with a great passion for nature and the outdoors.  He is especially known for his commitment, patience and knowledge of the outdoors when guiding.  A few experienced hunters have rated him as one of the most intuitive guides they have ever worked with.  Marius is a qualified Dental Technician and lives in the picturesque Nature’s Valley at the Cape coast when he’s not in Mozambique.

Coert Janse van Rensburg (Coera)


Coera started as a general assistant when building the new Bahati camp, upgraded to be an apprentice PH (although qualified) and now a crafty PH with experience and wisdom beyond his years.  Coera is a highly skilled fisherman and boatman holding an official Skippers’ license.  He’s originally from a small town called Hectorspruit (near Nelspruit) in the eastern lowveld.  He has declared himself as the Alpha Male in the Bahati camp.

Anton Smit


Anton has decided to return to Mozambique after spending a couple of years in the UK.  He had a few seasons of Mozambique under the belt before going north.  He is the original farm boy qualifying as PH early.  He has always been working on game ranches and managing game lodges in South Africa when not guiding full-time.  Anton worked as a plumbing and carpentry contractor in London while away.  He is an avid fisherman and enjoys water sports, and calls the Free State home when not in Mozambique. 

Johan Strasheim


Johan is a PH and outfitter, the owner of Bahati Adventures, and manages and organises the logistics and keeps all admin matters in order – which leaves preciously little time for guiding. He is an instrument rated, multi-enige fixed-wing pilot that enjoys flying his Aerostar – and he is also a helicopter pilot. In his free time he enjoys freshwater game fishing and wingshooting. Johan is a registered Professional Engineer, holds five degrees including a PhD in Industrial- and Systems Engineering and a Masters degree in wildlife management. Johan lives in Pretoria.
